Meet Our Owner

Jan Chamberlain, P.T., A.T.,C. CKTP

Jan began her career with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Medicine from Central Michigan University in 1985. Soon after graduation, she went on to obtain a National Certification as an Athletic Trainer. Jan went on to acquire her Post-Baccalaureate degree in Physical Therapy from Northwestern University Medical School in 1990. That year she worked at the Friendship Games in Washington D.C. (U.S.A, Canada, and the Russian Federation). In 1989, Jan was of the seven Athletic Trainers handpicked from the U.S. to serve in the Deaf Olympics in New Zealand. She was assigned to the women’s basketball team who won the Gold Medal. Jan has also worked with Olympic 1992 kayak and canoers, 2004 men and women’s Olympic gymnastic teams and 2008 ice skaters. She has worked with Olympic champions like Flo Jo, Jackie Joyce Kersee and Paul Hamm.

Jan has created a niche for herself in the local community becoming known for her uncanny ability to figure out the patient’s puzzle by incorporating her professional experience to facilitate proper treatment for individuals from minor to the most complex of sports and orthopedic injuries. Her philosophy of physical therapy practice intertwines patient-centered knowledge, listening skills, clinical reasoning, while focusing on functional movement with caring and optimism. She has integrated the art and science of healing and caring into a single concept. In 2005, Jan opened her physical therapy clinic in Westerly, RI. She has helped thousands of local residents and specializes in neck and back injuries, arthritis, post-surgical procedures, accident related injuries, orthopedic and sports injuries, as well as women’s health services.

My number one goal is to help patients ‘get their life back’. This is the most frequent remark I hear from my patients. They just want to be able to return to their prior activity, whether it be working around the house, or returning to their sport.”

Liked “The positive atmosphere, Jan’s knowledge, experience, and patience.” Lisa C

“Friendliness, knowledgeable, got treated very well & I’ll always come here if I need to.” Jane W

Meet Our Team

Walter Neuberger, MSPT, DPT, STC

Walter’s dynamic approach to treating a patient’s condition has made him an integral part of the First PT Team. Graduating with a doctorate in Physical Therapy and a certification in Sports Therapy in 2010 from the University of St. Augustine, Walter has been able to apply his knowledge in an orthopedic environment for over nine years.

Relocating from Chicago, IL to Westerly, RI in 2013, Walter is excited to be a part of the Westerly community and contribute to the health care sector of the town. His expertise has made him a trustworthy voice in our clinic and will be of benefit to the surrounding community.

Walter firmly believes that education is an important aspect of physical therapy. He empowers his patients by helping them take personal responsibility for their care. Involving the patient in the rehabilitation process enables the patient to manage their condition successfully and respond to future dysfunctions.
